Cambridge Street retaining wall replacement works - Red Hill
Brisbane City Council is pleased to advise that works to rebuild a 30-metre retaining wall on Cambridge Street, Red Hill will start early in August 2019 and be completed in September 2019, weather and site conditions permitting.
The rebuilt wall will maintain the support to the median and upper roadway. The works are part of Council's commitment to protecting and improving the stability and safety of existing infrastructure.
|Address||Cambridge Street, Red Hill|
|Project outcomes||Retaining wall replacement works|
|Latest update||Construction works to commence in early August 2019|
About the project
The project will include:
- replacing the existing stone-pitched wall like-for-like
- removing some vegetation
- removing six mature trees
- replanting the area with native small trees, shrubs and ground coverings
- reinstating the existing steel fence.
For the safety of pedestrians and road users, a section of on-street car parks and pedestrian pathway will be closed and fenced during works. Partial road closures may be required at times during works.
Six large trees growing in the median are required to be removed as part of the project. Due to their size, the tree roots are damaging the retaining wall. The tree removal and replanting will be conducted in consultation with a qualified arborist and in line with Council's environmental guidelines.
Construction will be undertaken from 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Some out of hours and weekend work may also be required. Council is committed to keeping the community informed of construction in their area and will provide advance notification of out of hours activities.
During construction, there will be restricted vehicle access to the access road from Cambridge Street, directly opposite the St Brigid's Church building. Council's contractor will endeavour to have the road clear at the end of each day. On weekends, equipment and materials will be moved to the eastern end of the access road to allow access for residents.
The local community may experience increased traffic movements, low-level construction noise, dust and vibration. For the safety of works onsite, reversing lights and indicators cannot be switched off.
Traffic control will be in place to direct traffic around the site when required. Road users, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to take care when travelling near the work site.
Council apologises in advance for any inconvenience caused and appreciates your patience while we complete these important works.
