About the project

Council is pleased to advise that works to construct a new shared path and low-level creek crossing from Idonia Street in Bridgeman Downs to the Cabbage Tree Creek Bikeway are anticipated to commence in mid-April 2021.

The Idonia Street creek crossing project will include construction of a new three-metre-wide shared concrete path to connect Idonia Street with the existing Cabbage Tree Creek Bikeway via a low-level culvert crossing over Cabbage Tree Creek. The Idonia Street crossing is part of Council’s ongoing program to improve access and connectivity by delivering new bridges and upgraded crossing facilities across creeks throughout Brisbane.

This new path will provide an additional access point from Bridgeman Downs to the popular Cabbage Tree Creek Bikeway.

Works will include:

  • construction of a new three-metre-wide shared concrete path to connect Idonia Street with the existing Cabbage Tree Creek Bikeway
  • the installation of five reinforced concrete box culverts approximately 2.7m long x 1.4m wide to create a crossing point over Cabbage Tree Creek
  • grading of the embankment from Idonia Street down to the creek
  • the installation of solar lighting at the culvert crossing
  • earthworks, concrete and landscaping works.

The project also involves the removal of 26 trees along the alignment to facilitate construction of the project. Council will offset this tree removal by replanting 33 new trees in the project area. All work will be carried out in accordance with the relevant environmental guidelines and Council will make every effort to minimise environmental impacts during construction.

Timing

Works are anticipated to commence in mid-April 2021 and be complete by late 2021, weather and site conditions permitting. Works will be undertaken Monday to Friday, from 7am to 5pm, with occasional Saturday works as required.

Construction impacts

Throughout construction, residents in close proximity to the works may experience some construction noise, increased truck movements and low levels of vibration and dust.

There may be some temporary access changes to the park to enable construction works to proceed safely. This may include temporary access changes to the pedestrian pathway closest to Coolabah Crescent and to pedestrian access to the parkland from Idonia Street.

Signed detours will be in place detailing alternative access as required.
