About the project

This project will inform the future design of gas relocation works and allow for future upgrades of the local stormwater infrastructure.

Project timeframes

The investigation works are planned to start late June 2020 and are expected to take one month to complete, weather and site conditions permitting.

Works will primarily take place between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. Work at the intersection of Wickham Street and Constance Street will occur one night between 7pm and 5am, when traffic flow is lowest and to ensure the safety of all road users and workers. Council will endeavour to keep disturbance to a minimum and where possible aim to complete noisy works by 11pm.

As works progress through the bus stop located on Wickham Street between Constance Street and Bridge Street (bus stop name Bridge Street 5) the buses will temporarily stop in the car parks located before the stop.

Construction impacts

During the investigation works, nearby residents and businesses can expect noise, dust and increased vehicle movements with reversing beepers and flashing lights in the area. Due to workplace health and safety requirements, reversing beepers cannot be switched off.

In order to complete these works:

  • sections of the road will be progressively closed one at a time
  • temporary parking, lane and footpath closures will be required along Wickham Street.

For the safety of workers, pedestrians and cyclists, the work area will be fenced off for the duration of works. Traffic controllers and signage will be on site to safely direct motorists and pedestrians around the work site.
