Active School Travel blog

We know children want to cycle or scooter to school in Brisbane, yet only around 3% do. We want more students to ride to school and we want them to have the skills, confidence and experience to ride safely.

Walk Safely to School Day is an annual event organised by the Pedestrian Council and has had the continued support of the Active School Travel program. We encouraged our schools to actively travel to school on their active travel day during the week of 14 May, or even better – on the Walk Safely to School Day itself on Friday 18 May.

Each year, the Active School Travel program conducts a thorough review of active travel statistics from participating schools to measure the impact of the program.

Every week teachers engage with students to record how they travelled to school. One enterprising teacher has extended that weekly activity to help deliver lessons in the classroom.
