Commuter bikeway corridor studies

The CBD to Wynnum/Manly and CBD to Carindale commuter bikeway corridor studies are part of Lord Mayor Graham Quirk's commitment to provide $120 million in new bikeway infrastructure over four years under the Better Bikeways 4 Brisbane program. About the projects

In 2012 Lord Mayor Graham Quirk announced $120 million in funding for the Better Bikeways 4 Brisbane (BB4B). This four year program aims to create a better commuter network of bikeways that service major employment areas, as well as improving access and safe travel to local shopping strips, schools and public transport hubs.

BB4B will address the following key priorities outlined in the Brisbane Active Transport Strategy 2012–2026 (Word)

  1. Encouraging walking and cycling
  2. Walking and cycling friendly suburbs
  3. A connected commuter network
  4. A safe and accessible network
  5. Information at your fingertips

The CBD to Wynnum/Manly and CBD to Carindale commuter bikeway corridors are the first two projects to be undertaken as part of priority area three.

Current status

The project team have undertaken technical investigations and consultation with local bicycle user groups to determine preferred alignments for both projects.

Next steps

Council will now undertake further technical investigations to start prioritising areas and scheduling individual bikeway projects within the preferred alignments. These bikeway projects will be rolled out progressively over the coming years.

Council will undertake more detailed consultation with affected residents and businesses throughout the design stages of these individual projects.
