Ashgrove Avenue bridge bearing replacement - Ashgrove
Brisbane City Council is undertaking important maintenance works to the Ashgrove Avenue bridge (approaching Enoggera Road), Ashgrove, to extend the serviceable lifespan of the bridge.
|Address||Ashgrove Avenue bridge (approaching Enoggera Road), Ashgrove|
|Ward||Enoggera and The Gap|
|Project outcomes||Extend the life of the bridge|
|Latest update||Project introduction|
About the project
Works will include:
- replacing existing bearings on the western side of the bridge
- excavating the full width of the road on the western side of the bridge
- raising the bridge on the western end of the bridge
- hydro demolishing some concrete components of the bridge
- backfilling the road and reinstating of paths and pavements.
Bridge closure and detours
To undertake these works a full closure is required of both the Ashgrove Avenue bridge and the Enoggera Creek bikeway underneath. This will also ensure the safety of bridge and bikeway users, as well as project workers. Access to adjacent residential and business properties will be maintained at all times.
Access for motorists and cyclists
Detail traffic management plans have been developed to support this closure, including detours, signage and reduced speed limits. Traffic controllers will direct bridge and bikeway users.
The following detour routes will provide alternative access during construction:
- Ashgrove Avenue Bridge - road detours for vehicles (Word 325kb)
- Ashgrove Avenue Bridge - pedestrian and cycling detours (Word 310kb).
Access for pedestrians
A temporary pedestrian bridge will be installed on the northern side of the road bridge on the second day of construction. Due to safety requirements, this temporary crossing will not be available for the first 24 hours of construction and pedestrians can either make use of dedicated detour route or catch the route 373 bus service.
Changes to bus route 373
The 373 bus service will be rerouted along the Banks Street detour and operate on 3, 7 and 8 May 2019. 6 May is a public holiday and will not operate on this day.
Due to the rerouting of the route, bus stops 20, 21 and 23 on both sides of Ashgrove Avenue will be closed. To reduce the impacts of these closures, Council has organised a free shuttle bus to run to the regular route 373 timetable and operate between stop 20 (near the caravan park) and stop 24 (near Lovekin Street, inbound service) and Gailey Street (outbound service).
These important maintenance works will ensure ongoing safety for all users of the bridge and Enoggera Creek Bikeway underneath. This work will also extend the serviceable lifespan of the bridge.
The main construction period will occur from 2 to 9 May 2019, weather and construction conditions permitting. During this time, construction will be carried out 24 hours a day.
If these dates are rescheduled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, works will take place in June 2019, weather and construction conditions permitting.
Preliminary works will occur in the lead-up to the main construction period (2-9 May 2019) and will take place during the day. Impacts will be minimal and bridge access will remain open during these activities.
