About the project

As part of the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) and the Australian Government’s Gateway Upgrade North (GUN) project, the existing roundabout at Bracken Ridge Road and Barfoot Street will be replaced with a new signalised intersection. As there will be no U-turn facility at the new signalised intersection, Council will be installing a U-turn facility on Bracken Ridge Road between the service road and Barfoot Street, on behalf of DTMR.

Works to construct the U-turn facility will include:

  • removing trees in the centre median
  • removing and replacing a section of footpath on the southern side of Bracken Ridge Road
  • extending the existing stormwater drainage
  • road pavement construction
  • asphalting and line marking.

To construct the U-turn facility, approximately three street trees will need to be removed in the centre median. All works will be undertaken in accordance with Council’s offset policies and legislative requirements with three trees to be planted in the local area.

Timing

Works will generally take place between 7pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday, when traffic volumes are lowest to ensure the safety of motorists and workers and to minimise traffic disruptions. Temporary lane closures will be required, and traffic controllers will be onsite to assist motorists. Local access will not be affected by the works however, short delays may be experienced.

Where possible, day works may also be undertaken between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday, to minimise disruption to the local community at night.

Due to workplace health and safety requirements reversing beepers cannot be switched off. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during this work.

Council would like to thank local residents and businesses for their patience and understanding during these important works to improve the safety and efficiency of this busy area.
