Kingsford Smith Drive - video transcript

This is a transcript from the video on Brisbane City Council's YouTube channel showing the Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade plans.

Lendlease is proud to deliver the Kingsford Smith Drive Upgrade project on behalf of Brisbane City Council.

Our inspired design will transform one of the city’s busiest roads to create an iconic journey and entry statement to Brisbane.

A tree lined boulevard will be created from east to west for the whole extent of the project, providing a vibrant urban corridor and memorable experience for motorists.

At Nudgee Road, access to and from Kingsford Smith Drive will be improved by extra turning lanes to increase road capacity for future traffic volumes.

Indented bus bays and upgraded bus stops will cater for future increases in bus services along the corridor and reduce delays.

New on-road cycle lanes from Theodore St to Racecourse Road will make it easier for cyclists to connect to the Gateway Bridge in the east and Bretts Wharf in the west.

We will transform Bretts Wharf into a new urban plaza and parkland, connecting the Racecourse Road retail precinct to the ferry terminal at Bretts Wharf to provide a new riverside destination for Brisbane.

The multi-functional plaza will provide opportunities for relaxation or hosting events, bringing residents and visitors closer to the water’s edge to capitalise on stunning river city views.

A new river’s edge cycle and footpath will provide a continuous connection between Bretts Wharf and Cameron Rocks Reserve.

The Heritage Tram Shelter will be relocated and refurbished at Crescent Road acknowledging the history of the area.

New artwork and feature lighting will also be provided along the river’s edge reinforcing Brisbane’s identity as a new world city.

Rest stop areas will be located along the river walk with viewing platforms and seating to encourage public interaction with the river and capture views towards the CBD.

A rejuvenated Cameron Rocks Reserve will be re-landscaped to enhance connectivity to the river.

The existing Anzac memorial will be refurbished and surrounded by a crescent of palm trees befitting the ceremonial significance of this site.

LendLease shares Council’s vision for creating a lasting piece of infrastructure that is more than just a road. The Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade will create a Brisbane landmark and future-proof our city for generations to come.
