Latest update

Construction is expected to start early March 2019 and be complete mid-May 2019, weather and site conditions permitting.

About the project

The upgrade works will formalise the main parkland drain, increase drain capacity and improve landfill leachate management of the general area. The drain will be lined with rock to reduce the risk of potential erosion.

The project is in line with Council’s commitment to keep our city clean and green to ensure Brisbane remains a liveable and sustainable city for future generations.

Construction will involve:

  • Excavation and earthworks
  • Clearing of vegetation encroaching on drainage area
  • Installation of rock bedding
  • Landscaping and planting.

Approximately seven trees are required to be removed to complete these works. All work will be carried out in accordance with the relevant environmental guidelines and Council will make every effort to minimise environmental impacts during construction. Vegetation impacts will be offset in accordance with Council policies and relevant legislative requirements.

Works will take place between 7am and 5pm Monday to Saturday. Council is aware that landfill materials may be discovered during earth moving activities and it’s possible some works will need to be undertaken outside of general working hours. Wherever possible, advance notification will be provided to residents before this occurs.

Properties in close proximity to the work may experience some construction machinery noise and dust however, Council will endeavour to keep this disturbance to a minimum. Dust suppression measures will be in place during construction and dust monitoring equipment installed at the site. Due to workplace health and safety requirements, reversing beepers cannot be switched off.

Residents may notice increased truck movements in and out of the site, primary access to the site will be from Monier Road with some access required via Cardiff Road.  Council will minimise disturbance for nearby residential areas as much as possible.
