About the project

Council has jointly funded this project with the Queensland Government as part of the Partnering for Safer Schools program.

Council has completed the majority of works on the drop and go facility at MacGregor State School, located on McCullough Street, MacGregor near the Mains Road intersection.

Works to improve and enhance safety at the drop and go facility involved:

  • transforming the existing drop and go into a slip lane into the new drop and go creating a new, safer drop and go zone directly outside the school’s administration building and D block, away from the main traffic of McCullough Street
  • increasing the drop and go capacity
  • installing 15 formalised, angled car parks with line marking and signage
  • relocating the existing pedestrian crossing on McCullough Street, west of the new drop and go entry and exit
  • modifying the centre median island on McCullough Street
  • upgrading the pedestrian footpath around the drop and go zone.

While the new facility will be operational from 23 April 2019, some final works will be required in the following weeks, including driveway and footpath works, asphalting and line marking on McCullough Street, landscaping and traffic signal works. These works are expected to be predominantly undertaken at night between 7pm and 5am from 29 April 2019 for approximately two weeks, weather permitting. The drop and go will remain open during these works

Benefits

The project created short-term and long-term parking spaces to support the existing and future traffic demands of MacGregor State School, and improves pedestrian and traffic safety.

Timing

While the new facility will be operational from 23 April 2019, some final works will be required in the following weeks. These final works will be completed by mid-May 2019, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Construction

Final works include driveway and footpath works, asphalting and line marking on McCullough Street, landscaping and traffic signal works. These works are expected to be undertaken at night between 7pm and 5am from 29 April 2019 for approximately two weeks.

Residents may experience some construction impacts including noise, dust and vibration. Temporary traffic changes and lane closures will be required to allow work to be completed. Road users should expect delays when travelling through the area.

Council is committed to minimising the impact of the works on the community as much as possible. Council will keep local residents informed of construction activity in their area and will provide advance notification of activities likely to cause disruption such as noisy and out-of-hours works.

Where possible, noisy works will be completed by 11pm. Due to workplace health and safety requirements reversing beepers cannot be switched off. Council will maintain safe pedestrian access to the administration office and around the worksite at all times.
