Queen's Wharf Brisbane - road network improvements

The Queensland Government, in collaboration with Destination Brisbane Consortium, is delivering the redevelopment of Queen’s Wharf Brisbane in the Central Business District (CBD) from January 2017.

As a result of this redevelopment, Queens Wharf Road is now permanently closed and part of William Street, between Elizabeth Street and Margaret Street, has been closed for the next six years.

Due to these road closures, changes have also been made to a number of bus routes and service pick-up and drop-off locations within the CBD.

About the project

In response to this development and to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians and cyclists, Council has undertaken a number of traffic improvements in the CBD to minimise the impact of these closures and changed bus routes.

As part of the network improvements Council has:

  • upgraded intersections across the CBD
  • provided five new bus stops in:
    • Charlotte Street
    • Mary Street
  • built new bus lay down areas and relocated existing bus lay down areas
  • relocated one CityCycle station on Mary Street (to view all current CityCycle station locations, visit the interactive map).

With these upgrades, Council is taking real action to reduce traffic congestion, facilitate the changed bus routes and ensure residents can get home safely.

Motorcycle parking changes

A number of free motorcycle parking spaces within the Queensland Government’s Queens Wharf Brisbane development area have been lost as a result of road closures.

Council has requested the Queensland Government provide alternative locations to assist in meeting the needs of motorcyclists. Council has also offered to help identify locations in the CBD and nearby areas that could potentially be used for motorcycle parking.

To find existing motorcycle parking locations, view our interactive map. As additional locations are identified, newly installed motorcycle parking spaces will be added to the map.
