About the project

The Tramway Street closed landfill investigation works are part of Council’s ongoing landfill remediation and maintenance program.

Council will install environmental monitoring wells within the Samford Road corridor between Tramway Street and Claverton Street and undertake monitoring.

The works will involve:

  • drilling approximately 20 new wells along Samford Road between Tramway Street and Claverton Street
  • monitoring the wells.

Project timing

The wells will be installed between 11 December 2017 and 22 December 2017, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Drilling and excavating works will be undertaken at night when traffic volumes are lowest to ensure the safety of motorists and workers and to minimise traffic disruptions. These works will generally take place between 8pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday.

Monitoring of the wells will be undertaken intermittently in January 2018 for up to five days. This will generally occur Monday to Saturday between 7am and 6pm under traffic control.

Impacts during works

Temporary lane closures will be required, with traffic controllers on-site to assist road users and pedestrians. Local access will not be affected, however short delays may be experienced.

Properties in close proximity to the work site may experience construction noise and increased lighting, however Council will endeavour to keep this disturbance to a minimum where possible.

Due to workplace health and safety requirements, reversing beepers cannot be switched off.
