Teneriffe, Newstead and New Farm precinct traffic study

Brisbane City Council is taking real action to make our suburban streets safer and more accessible for all. In response to concerns raised by the local community, Council undertook a traffic study in the Teneriffe, Newstead and New Farm areas.

As part of this study, in mid-2017, Council invited the local community to have their say on traffic and transport concerns within the study area via an online tool that allowed users to plot their feedback at an exact location on a map, as well as face-to-face community consultation sessions. Council received over 1090 online comments, 4745 online votes, and valuable feedback from 280 people at face-to-face engagement sessions.

This community feedback was supported by in-field studies, including an analysis of crash data history in the area, speed surveys, an assessment of traffic movements and capacity, a Road Safety Audit and an investigation into current parking activity.

This traffic study aligns with Council’s Transport Plan for Brisbane – Strategic Directions to implement local safety improvements in residential neighbourhoods and high pedestrian activity areas, and to manage transport congestion across transport networks to provide more sustainable transport options.

Following the review of community feedback, Council identified a number of priority projects to improve traffic management, congestion, parking, connectivity and safety in the study area. The findings were compiled into the Teneriffe, Newstead and New Farm Summary Report and the Teneriffe, Newstead and New Farm Technical Report.
