Walter Taylor Bridge tours

""

Brisbane City Council has opened the heritage-listed Walter Taylor Bridge at Indooroopilly for public viewing and tours.

Bridge heritage

The Walter Taylor Bridge was included in a study of historic bridges by the Australian Heritage Commission in 1985 and entered on to the Register of the National Estate in 1988. The residences in the Bridge are unique to bridges in Australia.

The heritage-listed bridge pylon was opened for public viewing in 2013. Tours of the pylon and bridge precinct began by Brisbane Greeters (a local volunteer greeters program that is a member of the Global Greeters Network) in late October 2013.

Small group bridge tours - for individuals and groups (up to 8 people)

Bookings for Walter Taylor Bridge Tours are now available.

Small group tours of the Walter Taylor Bridge are available every day by appointment. Tours should be booked at least seven days in advance. Tours run for approximately 1 hour and depart from the corner of Railway Avenue and Lambert Road, Indooroopilly (next to Indooroopilly Railway Station). Tours involve a two kilometre bridge precinct walk and internal pylon experience.

For safety reasons and because the Walter Taylor Bridge is a heritage listed site, tours are limited to a maximum of eight people, with a maximum of 5 people permitted inside the bridge pylon at any given time (including the Brisbane Greeter). Tour groups of 8 people will be split into two groups of four at the pylon entry, with groups moving through the pylon separately.

Large group bridge tours - for group bookings of more than 8 people (maximum 16 people per group)

Large group bookings (more than 8 participants) for Walter Taylor Bridge Tours are available. For safety reasons, groups are limited to a maximum of 16 people.

Large group tours can be booked for the last Thursday and Friday of each month. Tours run for 1 hour and depart/finish at Taylor Bridge Reserve (off Wharf Street, Chelmer). Tours involve walking approximately 1 kilometre (across the bridge to the pylon and back to the Reserve) and an internal pylon experience.

Large group booking participants should be aware of the suitability criteria.

For safety reasons and because the Walter Taylor Bridge is a heritage listed site, a maximum of 5 people are permitted inside the bridge pylon at any given time (including the Brisbane Greeter). Groups of 16 participants will be divided during the tour into two groups of eight people per group. A staggered start approach will be used for these tours, with the groups then divided further at the pylon entry, thereby allowing groups of five (four plus the Brisbane Greeter) people at a time inside the Walter Taylor Bridge pylon.
