City in Masks: How Brisbane Fought the Spanish Flu. In 1919, the Spanish flu killed millions of people worldwide and more than 300 in Brisbane. In today’s terms, that would be more 2000 Brisbane residents. It is the city’s worst natural disaster. Matthew Wengert will share his research on the Spanish Flu, its arrival in Australia and local stories he has discovered. All welcome.
