The Willawong Resource Recovery Centre is a Brisbane City Council waste minimisation initiative that provides local residents with free disposal for recycling and reusable materials.
The centre is the first of its kind in Brisbane, and aims to help make Brisbane Australia's most sustainable, clean and green city by increasing the reuse and recovery of resources and reducing overall waste to landfill. The dedicated, purpose-built venue makes recycling easier and faster by reducing queues, increasing access to facilities, and reducing processing times.
The centre accepts domestic and commercial loads containing recyclables from the accepted items list only, free of charge. Loads must not contain any general waste.
The Willawong Resource Recovery Centre is accessible via the Willawong Transfer Station entrance, located at 360 Sherbrooke Road, Willawong. The centre is open from 6.30am to 5.45pm every day of the year, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
Residents and commercial operators in vehicles less than 4.5 tonnes can use the drive-through facility to recycle for free. Domestic and commercial loads containing only recyclables from the list will be accepted free of charge and must not contain any general waste:
Any household goods and equipment in working order can be donated to the Tip Shop.
A 20 litre limit for each product of chemical applies to residents and commercial operators. All quantities in excess of this are subject to normal disposal costs and must comply with relevant waste disposal regulations.
There are no general waste collection bays within the Resource Recovery Centre, so loads containing any mixed materials, green waste or general waste will be directed over the weigh bridge and through to the existing transfer station facilities. The transfer station will still feature collection points for recyclables, but users will be required to pay disposal costs. Normal fees will apply or you may use your waste vouchers.
When visiting the new facility, remember to dress appropriately to ensure that you stay safe. Fully enclosed shoes, long pants, protective glasses such as sunglasses, and protective gloves are recommended. Children under 12 and family pets are to remain in the vehicle at all times and if you have a heavy load, bring a friend or family member to help you unload.
Council transfer stations are non-smoking sites.
