BNE Local and Liveable – Ellen Grove

To kick-start BNE Local and Liveable projects, Brisbane City Council tested activation ideas at the Ellen Grove shopping centre. To identify potential activation ideas and help shape the development of an initial site plan, Council undertook a site assessment and consulted with local residents, community groups and businesses to better understand the opportunities and constraints. Council also considered previous ideas co-designed through community development and university students in 2018.

Council tested a variety of pre-designed streetscape elements. For the Ellen Grove project an additional dimension was added with a welcoming mural and activation of the space.

An eight-week installation period, community feedback and a site evaluation helped to determine  the future of the project site and the activation elements.

About the project area

The project focused on the corner of Waterford Road and Bluebird Avenue. This location provides a welcoming entry to the village centre and a pleasant drop-off/pick-up experience for the school across the road.
