Booker Place Park 1974 flood memorial

Council is pleased to announce we have delivered a new flood memorial at Booker Place Park in Bellbowrie, to commemorate the 50th anniversary since the death of two Australian Defence Force personnel during the 1974 floods.

About the project

Brisbane City Council delivered a new flood memorial at Booker Place Park to commemorate the 50th anniversary since the death of two Australian Defence Force personnel during the 1974 floods.

The memorial is located near the existing ANZAC memorial in the park, which is a significant site for the community to commemorate ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day.

The project was delivered by Council, working alongside the Moggill Historical Society.

Project details

The project included:

  • installing a 3-metre long memorial sculpture and concrete base
  • installing a new concrete pathway linking to the existing memorial
  • installing new garden beds and associated plantings
  • minor earthworks
  • vegetation clearing and/or works within tree protection zones.

Construction

These works commenced in mid-November 2023 and were completed in January 2024.
