We know how our community values local parks, and we are providing an opportunity for residents to share your views about the proposed temporary permit.
Council is considering a proposal from St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace for a 12-month permit arrangement (not a lease) to use part of the Bedford Playground Park in Spring Hill for structured sport and physical education during specified times in school terms.
Most of the park would continue to be fully accessible for the community as usual. The proposed area would include the tennis court and a clearly defined section of greenspace. To see proposed areas, refer to the map in Resources.
The proposal includes the following.
- The tennis court and a section of greenspace would be used for school activities during scheduled weekday periods, including some early mornings and school hours (see proposed times below).
- The playground and basketball court would remain open to the community at all times.
- The community will be able to access to tennis court and green space outside of the scheduled periods.
- The school would remove the existing concrete cricket pitch and soccer goal.
- The school would install a low fence along the car park boundary to help prevent balls entering the car park.
As part of the arrangement, the school would undertake field remediation works to improve and level out the kick-about area. The school will also undertake ongoing maintenance at their own cost, leaving the space in better condition for the community.
