Brighton Road safety improvements - Sandgate
We’ve completed upgrades to Brighton Road to make it safer, including for people crossing the road and moving through the area.
Our Local Access Network Improvements program delivers small but important upgrades to help make our suburbs safer and more accessible, particularly for pedestrians.
As part of these works, we:
- converted the zebra crossing near Fifth Avenue into a raised zebra crossing
- converted the zebra crossing near Fourth Avenue into a staggered 2-stage refuge zebra crossing
- removed 2 trees and some small shrubs
- replanting 2 trees
- installed a traffic island on the north-eastern side of the 2-stage crossing
- removed the right turn out of Fourth Avenue into Brighton Road by extending the centre median on Brighton Road
- painted new line marking
- installed minor landscaping and lighting.
Two on-street parking spaces were removed on the northern side of the 2-staged crossing. This was required to make sure pedestrians and motorists can see each other clearly at the crossing.
