Cannon Hill Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct
We’re revitalising Cannon Hill Centre to boost housing and local jobs while enhancing the area’s unique character.
About the plan
Why this plan matters
Brisbane is one of Australia’s fastest-growing capital cities and we’re working with communities to help deliver new homes sooner, while protecting the lifestyle that makes our city so special.
A precinct plan updates planning rules that are used to assess new development, so growth and renewal can happen in a coordinated and strategic way. Learn more about suburban renewal precincts.
Why Cannon Hill Centre?
Cannon Hill is an important district centre for Brisbane’s east. It serves nearby suburbs and the wider region with shops, jobs, services and homes in one place. This area brings together everyday needs, from retail and offices to industry and housing. Residents can access a range of services close to where they live and work.
Southgate Corporate Park sits at the heart of the precinct. It supports many local jobs, with offices, service businesses and specialist tenants, along with the facilities people rely on each day.
This centre plays a key role in supporting the community now and into the future. It’s exceptionally well connected, with Cannon Hill and Murarrie railway stations, high-frequency bus services, a central interchange, and direct services along Wynnum Road, providing convenient access to the Brisbane CBD and surrounding suburban centres.
The area around the precinct offers many places to relax. There’s easy access to well-loved spaces like Murarrie Recreation Reserve, home to the Brisbane International Cycle Park, along with Minnippi Golf Course and Parklands, and Seven Hills Bushland Reserve.
These places provide space to unwind, stay active and connect with nature close to home. We know how important these local spaces are for wellbeing, and for spending time with family and friends.
With these qualities, Cannon Hill is a great location for renewal – helping local businesses thrive and providing opportunities for more homes close to shops, services, and opportunities that make daily life smooth.

What we're planning
We're working with the community to create a suburban renewal precinct plan to:
- increase housing supply and choice for people of all stages of life, including young people, families and downsizers
- leverage local transport connections
- enhance the area's subtropical character
- expand opportunities for the local economy.
How the plan is developed
The draft plan is informed by community input, technical studies and Queensland Government feedback.
Once it has gone through the relevant stages, the final plan, if adopted, will be included in Brisbane City Plan 2014 (City Plan) and used to guide and assess development.
