From 18 May 2026, Kitchener Street at Cavendish Road will permanently close to vehicles. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
Construction will start from 18 May and be complete by late 2026, weather and site conditions permitting. Most of the works will take place at night, when traffic volumes are lowest. This will ensure everyone’s safety and reduce the overall time to complete the works. Night works can be scheduled 7pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday.
At times, we may also carry out works during the day, to help finish the project sooner. Day works can be scheduled 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
If you live in the area or are travelling through the intersection, you may experience:
- increased noise, construction activity, reversing beepers and lights during work hours
- temporary lane changes and stop-go traffic control to help you move through the work.
Traffic control will be on site during working hours to help you move safely through the area.
Design updates
Thanks to community feedback, we’ve included these updates in the project design:
- a new indented loading zone near the corner of Holdsworth Street and Cavendish Road
- park benches and bike racks in the new green space around the Kitchener Street cul-de-sac
- 13 new trees and 133 smaller plants and groundcovers in the new green space.
