Caxton Street creative lighting project - Petrie Terrace

Link copied

We're delivering improvements to Caxton Street to support its role as an exciting city destination.

A new layer of creative lighting is being added along Caxton Street between Petrie Terrace and Chapel Street to enhance the nighttime vibrancy of the precinct.

Works will include:

  • installation of 3 programmable, colour-changing, festoon lighting strands suspended over Caxton Street
  • related site electrical works.

The lighting strands will be supported by cables spanning over Caxton Street that connect to several existing street poles.

This project is delivered in partnership with the Australian Government’s Investing in Our Communities Program.

  • October 2025: Start of construction works.
  • Late 2025: Project completion subject to weather and site conditions.

Works will be undertaken during weekdays. At times, night works and road closures may be required between 20 October to mid-November December 2025 between 9pm–5am.

Some day works may be required. Day works will be undertaken from Monday to Friday from 7am–5pm.

People who live, work or visit the precinct will notice:

  • areas of the footpath sectioned off at times
  • increased lighting, noise and vibration during construction
  • traffic management and some temporary road closures over the duration of the works.
