We're upgrading stormwater drainage infrastructure at the intersection of Edward Street and Turbot Street in Brisbane City to improve the network.

The existing stormwater drainage network beneath the intersection of Edward Street and Turbot Street has deteriorated and requires replacement.

The project will use trenchless construction methods wherever possible to minimise disruption. Stormwater will continue to be safely and effectively managed through this important part of the CBD.

Works will include:

  • installing a new section of underground stormwater drainage using trenchless construction methods
  • undertaking minor surface excavations to connect new and existing infrastructure where required
  • constructing new stormwater manholes and drainage connections
  • stabilising a historic brick stormwater drain that has reached the end of its operational life
  • temporarily removing and safely storing part of the nearby Forme del Mito Expo '88 artwork
  • reinstating roads and footpaths after construction.

Works will start in early September and continue through to late October 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.

If you live, work, visit or travel through the area during construction, you may notice:

  • construction vehicles, equipment and workers within the project area
  • construction noise and vibrations, particularly during night works
  • temporary traffic and lane changes
  • temporary pedestrian diversions around active work areas
  • temporary impacts to the northbound bike lane on Edward Street
  • temporary fencing, signage and lighting around the work site.

To help minimise impacts on commuters, pedestrians and road users, works will be undertaken at night between 8pm and 6am, Sunday to Thursday.

Traffic control will be on site during construction to help you move safely through the area.

Pedestrian access will be maintained where safe to do so, and roads will be returned to normal operation outside active construction hours wherever possible.
