Gipps Street safety improvements – Fortitude Valley
We’ve finished safety improvements at the Gipps Street and Barry Parade intersection in Fortitude Valley.
Between 2018 and 2022, 10 crashes occurred at this intersection. Most of the crashes occurred when motorists attempted to turn right from Gipps Street onto Barry Parade. Others occurred when motorists attempted to travel across five lanes of traffic to Alfred Street.
Works included:
- changing southbound access from Gipps Street to Barry Parade to left-out only
- extending the median on Barry Parade
- realigning the kerb on Gipps Street
- upgrading the stormwater drainage
- extending the garden bed within the traffic island on Gipps Street
- installing LED street lighting and new signage at the intersection.
This project was proudly funded by the Australian Government’s Black Spots Program.
