We’re installing new traffic lights and crossings at the Hamilton Road, Western Avenue and Staib Road intersection. The upgrade will improve safety for all road users.

We’ve shared several designs in the past and have carefully listened to community feedback. A strong priority was improving access to The Prince Charles Hospital. This has now been incorporated into the design moving forward.

New traffic lights and crossings will help improve visibility and manage traffic flow. They will also provide safer crossing points and help reduce the risk of future crashes.

Our preliminary design is under development. We plan to share it in mid‑2026. The community will then be invited to meet the project team and discuss the proposal.

This project is jointly funded by the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council.

  • April 2026: Concept design and investigations.
  • From mid-2026: Preliminary design and early works.
  • From 2027: Final design then main construction works.

To help finalise the design, we’ll carry out on‑site testing and surveying along Hamilton Road and nearby streets this year. 

On-site testing includes:

  • checking the condition and structure of the road surface
  • locating utilities
  • surveying the area to accurately map levels, boundaries and existing features.

Works will take place during the day or at night, depending on what’s being done.

If you live nearby or are travelling through the area while works are underway, you may notice:

  • temporary noise, dust and vibration
  • construction vehicles with reversing alarms and flashing lights
  • traffic controllers and signage to guide pedestrians, cyclists and motorists safely through the work zone
  • temporary footpath diversions.

We’ll do our best to minimise any disruption and appreciate your patience during this time.

Hamilton Road will remain open, and there will be no impact to local property access.
