Indooroopilly Bikeway - Indooroopilly and St Lucia

Link copied

Council is planning for a potential future bikeway between the Western Freeway Bikeway and UQ.

In March 2025, the community shared their active travel experiences to help plan this important connection. Read what the community had to say.

Based on community feedback and technical analysis, Lambert Road and Witton Road have been identified as the most suitable route to accommodate continuous separated facilities.

The next step in the design process is to consider bike and pedestrian path locations, parking, driveway access and intersection layouts. Future stages will depend on funding, and there is currently no funding beyond the current design phase.

The project is proudly supported by Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.

Between 3 March and 30 March 2025, we received 265 online surveys and 432 pins placed on the online mapping tool.

Who we heard from:

  • 65% of respondents live locally and 52% travel through the area to access other destinations.
  • 72% of respondents prefer to ride a bike, walk/run (12%) or drive a car (11%) through the study area.

Key themes include:

  • more separation between people walking, riding and driving
  • better connectivity to the Western Freeway Bikeway, UQ and Indooroopilly Riverwalk
  • safer crossing points and intersection layouts
  • traffic calming and reduced speed limits
  • more school active travel options.

Witton and Lambert Roads connect people to riverfront pathways, shops, parks, public transport and schools in Indooroopilly and St Lucia.

Community feedback and technical data show strong demand for safer, separated walking and riding facilities along this corridor.

There are clear opportunities to improve safety with better separation, upgraded crossings and intersection improvements.

A bikeway here would support school active travel and create a continuous link from the CBD to the western suburbs.
