Ivory Street Precinct lighting project – Fortitude Valley

Link copied

We’re installing street lighting in the Ivory Street Precinct in Fortitude Valley. The upgrade improves safety and visibility for pedestrians at night.

We’re installing 13 new permanent lights within the Ivory Street Precinct in Fortitude Valley. This will help maintain community safety and improve visibility across roadways and public spaces at night.

Lights are positioned at specific locations to optimise illumination and comply with Australian standards.

In 2024, old lighting towers reaching the end of their useable life were removed. Temporary solar powered streetlights were installed.

Last year, we began early works to install permanent lighting. These works will continue from May.

Works will include:

  • removing the current temporary solar powered lights
  • removing existing asphalt and drilling into rock to install light pole foundations
  • open trenching, tunnel boring and vacuum excavating to install light pole foundations, conduits and electrical pits
  • installing LED luminaires and poles
  • undertaking electrical cable works
  • turf laying.

Works will take place at night between 7pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday, weather and site conditions permitting. Night works are taking place for everyone’s safety. Where there is wet weather, works will continue on the next available working night(s) until complete.

Day works will occasionally take place between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may notice:

  • construction vehicle movements with reversing alarms and flashing lights
  • construction noise and dust
  • traffic controllers and signage to safely direct traffic and pedestrians
  • temporary footpath diversions.

There may be intermittent short-term delays for pathway users while work is underway for each new pole. Where required, traffic control will be in place. This will manage stop and go traffic flow on the path to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and workers.

We value your patience and cooperation while we undertake this project.
