Mitchelton Library air conditioning upgrade - Mitchelton
We’re replacing the air conditioning system and lighting at Mitchelton Library, Mitchelton. The upgrade will make visits more comfortable and enjoyable for everyone.
To keep everyone safe, Mitchelton Library will be closed for about four weeks, weather and site conditions permitting. This closure allows us to carry out upgrade works.
The last day to visit Mitchelton Library before the upgrade is Saturday 16 May 2026. Please visit before then if you need library services, or seek alternative library facilities.
Construction will take place Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 6.30pm. Saturday works may occur if required.
Some noise and increased vehicle movements are expected during work hours. We will make every effort to minimise disruption where possible.
The library, meeting room, 24/7 library locker, and after-hours returns will be temporarily closed during this time.
Car park and café
Temporary fencing and signage will be installed around the site. Customer parking in the Mitchelton Library car park will be unavailable during the closure. This space is needed to store construction materials.
The café will remain open during the library closure. Access will remain open from Gizerah Street to Sid Loder Park. Customers can continue to enjoy free Wi‑Fi and deck seating with a cuppa.
Children's storytime
Children’s storytime sessions will continue every Tuesday from 19 May until the library reopens in mid‑June. Sessions will be held in Sid Loder Park behind the library.
Storytime sessions will run at 9.30am and 10.30am. We understand this closure may cause inconvenience and apologise for the disruption.
Alternative library facilities
Mitchelton Library will not be accepting any returns during the closure.
While Mitchelton Library is temporarily closed, library items can still be returned at the nearby locations:
- Everton Park Library (3.2kms away) – 573 S Pine Rd, Everton Park
- Ashgrove Library (4.5kms away) – 87 Amarina Avenue, Ashgrove
- Grange Library (4.5kms away) – 79 Evelyn St, Grange.
