Moreton Bay Cycleway: Schneider Road to Viola Place – Eagle Farm

Link copied

We're planning to construct a new shared path connecting the existing path at Schneider Road, Eagle Farm to the existing bike lane at Viola Place, Brisbane Airport.

Council is constructing a new shared path from the Schneider Road underpass, Eagle Farm, passing under the Gateway Motorway. This will connect to the existing bike lane and footpath at Viola Place, Brisbane Airport where there is a known gap in the Moreton Bay Cycleway.

Currently, the alternative routes are Terminal Drive / Lamington Avenue / Nudgee Road (to the west) and Kingsford Smith Drive / Sugarmill Road / Lomandra Drive (to the east).

Works will include:

  • constructing a 600-metre-long shared path, varying between 2.5 metres and 3 metres in width, between Schneider Road and Viola Place
  • installing line marking and wayfinding signage to connect with the local bikeway network and amenities
  • installing solar powered LED-lights and fencing along the shared path
  • replacing and relocating the weir, which crosses over a waterway
  • turfing and landscaping.

This connection is identified as a principal cycle route in the Queensland Government’s Principal Cycle Network Plan and is a priority for future improvements.

The project is jointly funded by Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.

Works are expected to start in late May 2025 for up to eight months, weather and site conditions permitting.

If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may:

  • see contractors on site and notice construction vehicles accessing the work site
  • notice noise, dust and vibrations during works
  • notice the immediate project area is temporarily closed off to the public during construction to ensure safety of the local community.

The Moreton Bay Cycleway is a collection of shared paths and cycle routes along 150 kilometres of the Brisbane coastline. It offers a high-quality active transport facility to popular areas, including the Redcliffe Peninsula, Sandgate/Shorncliffe foreshore, Wynnum/Manly foreshore and Redland Bay.

This cycleway also connects to the broader cycling network including Gateway Bridge Bikeway, Kedron Brook Bikeway, Jim Soorely Bikeway and the Gateway North Bikeway.

The cycleway spans three local government areas (Brisbane City Council, Moreton Bay City Council, Redland City Council), and once complete, may become one of the longest cycleways on the east coast of Australia.
