Council has upgraded the Mowbray Park ferry terminal in East Brisbane to improve accessiblity for all passengers. We've also increased the terminal capacity to cater for current and future demand. The upgraded terminal meets disability standards.
The works to the terminal included:
- removing the existing pontoon, gangway and associated piles
- repurposing and refurbishing the existing wating area
- installing an additional fixed walking connecting the repurposed wating area to a new flood resilient gangway
- installing a dual berth pontoon designed to support all vessels in our ferry fleet
- installing new piles associated with the fixed walkway, pontoon restraint and ferry movement
- creating a new 'look and feel' for the terminal including the addition of new ferry terminal identification signage
- installing improved lighting and safety features such as increased CCTV coverage.
As part of this upgrade, we also did works landside of the terminal including:
- upgrading the passenger set down area to ensure Disability Discrimination Act compliance
- upgrading the vehicle turnaround area at the end of Park Avenue
- adding parking spaces for people with a disability park permit, as well as new access paths
- landscape works
- improving lighting and safety.
