We’re transforming Mowbray Park into a more vibrant destination for recreation, relaxation and community events, with new spaces to play, gather and enjoy the riverfront.

The project builds on community feedback gathered in 2020-21, which helped shape the original concept plan for the project. Since then, we’ve completed further investigations to refine the design and have expanded the project to include additional features, such as an upgraded croquet club building and a new community space with a stage for events and performances.

The upgrades will deliver a range of new and improved spaces, including:

  • new greenspace and picnic shelters near the riverfront by relocating the carpark closer to Lytton Road
  • a new community gathering space featuring a stage and terraced lawn seating for performances, events and informal catch-ups
  • an upgraded croquet club building and modern public amenities
  • the return of a contemporary bandstand positioned to take advantage of river views
  • a larger playground with new play features for older children
  • improved pathways and landscaped garden beds that make it easier to explore and enjoy the park.

Once complete, Mowbray Park will offer more opportunities for people of all ages to connect, play, relax and spend time by the Brisbane River.

  • Late 2020: Community engagement to develop a shared vision.
  • Mid-2021: Draft concept plan released for community consultation.
  • Late 2021: Final concept plan for Mowbray Park released.
  • Late 2025: Removal of the former bowls club facility.
  • Late 2026: Updated concept plan for Mowbray Park released.
  • Late 2026 to early 2027: Finalise detailed design, approvals and procurement.
  • Mid-2027: Start construction.

Works are expected to start by mid-2027.

We’re working through the final steps before construction can begin, including approvals and procurement. We’ll provide another update to the community about construction timing and what to expect during the works.
