North Brisbane Bikeway: Stage 5 - Wooloowin and Kalinga

Link copied

We're planning a potential connection between the North Brisbane Bikeway (at Dickson Street, Wooloowin) to the Kedron Brook Bikeway (at Brook Road via Kent Road, Kalinga).

The North Brisbane Bikeway is a key active transport corridor in Brisbane’s north. Council is delivering it in partnership with the Queensland Government.

This project will complete the final link between the North Brisbane Bikeway on Dickson Street and the Kedron Brook Bikeway. The connection will expand Brisbane’s active transport network.

Council has engaged with the community about this connection over several years.

In 2021, Council released a concept design for the Price Street to Kedron Brook section. It connected to the Kedron Brook via Dickson and Jackson Streets. Through the engagement process, there were some elements of the design the community asked Council to consider further.

In early 2024, Council established a Community Working Group. Its purpose was to review the design and provide input on the Price Street to Kedron Brook alignment. The valuable insights gathered from this group have been reviewed along with technical input and feasibility.

Since the Community Working Group ended, Councillor Julia Dixon has raised broader community concerns. These concerns relate to the Price Street to Kedron Brook alignment.

Additionally Council has received two petitions regarding NBB Stage 5. One petition showed broad community support to complete Stage 5. Another requested Council consider the Kent Road alignment. Council’s Establishment and Coordination Committee endorsed responses to these petitions on 20 January 2025.

The Kent Road concept design was released in 2018. It proposed an east-west route via Price Street, Rose Street, and Park Road, connecting to the Kedron Brook Bikeway at Brook Road.

In response to community concerns, Cr Dixon expressed support for the Kent Road option. She indicated this as the preferred alignment.

Given the important role this bikeway connection would serve in the active transport network, and recognising the community interest, Council will discontinue work on the Price Street to Kedron Brook alignment and resume work on the previous Kent Road alignment.

Council will seek funding from the Queensland Government to undertake the design work for this connection.

We will provide an update to the community about this project should more information become available in the future.
