Sandgate Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct
We’re revitalising Sandgate Centre to boost housing and local jobs while retaining and enhancing the suburb’s unique bayside character.
About the plan
Brisbane is one of Australia’s fastest-growing capital cities. We’re working with communities to help deliver new homes sooner, while protecting the lifestyle that makes our city so special.
Sandgate is one of Brisbane’s well known bayside suburbs. It has shops, cafes and its renowned foreshore making it a favourite weekend destination.
Community, recreation and park facilities are located in and around Sandgate. This includes the library, sporting fields, the foreshore, Shorncliffe pier and nearby Lagoon Reserve.
We're working with the community to create a suburban renewal precinct plan to:
- increase housing choice close to services, employment and business
- expand opportunities for the local and visitor economy by identifying an appropriate mix of business, retail, personal and community services, and facilities
- leverage the rail station to grow new homes and jobs and attract visitors to the area
- embrace the area's outdoor lifestyle and subtropical character by encouraging new buildings to include landscaping, shade and climate-appropriate design
We are using technical investigations, community feedback and Queensland Government feedback to develop the plan.
Once it has gone through relevant stages, it will be adopted into Brisbane City Plan 2014 (City Plan) and used to guide and assess development.
