Sandgate Library roof replacement - Sandgate

We’re undertaking roof replacement works at the Sandgate Library, located within the Sandgate Town Hall building, on Seymour Street, Sandgate.

The Sandgate Town Hall building was built in 1912 and is a historically significant icon of the area, as listed on the Queensland State Heritage Register.

This project will preserve the facility for all users by replacing the roof and repairing areas of the library that have sustained minor damage as a result of water leaks. While we’re replacing the library roof, we’ll also paint the roof of the Town Hall building, to preserve its current condition.

This project will include:

  • upgrading the roof drainage system
  • replacing the roof sheeting on the library
  • painting sections of the existing galvanised roof sheeting in the Town Hall
  • replacing roof sealants
  • removing vegetation from brickwork walls.

The Sandgate Library will be temporarily closed for approximately six weeks from 7 October until mid-November 2025, while crucial elements of the roof replacement works are undertaken. This closure is required to ensure the safety of library visitors and workers.

During the remainder of works, you’ll still see us working on the roof, which is why sections of the library will be cordoned off to ensure visitor and worker safety.

The Pop-up Library will be in place to deliver Children's Story time sessions at Einbunpin Park every Tuesday from 7 October until 14 November 2025 at 9.30am and 10.30am, weather permitting.

Every Monday, from 13 October during the closure, the Mobile Library will be situated at Decker Park car park in Brighton from 9.30am to 12pm.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause for many library patrons and apologise for the disruption to regular library activities.

While the Sandgate Library is temporarily closed for these works, alternative library facilities can be found at:

  • Bracken Ridge Library – 4.2kms away
    • 77 Bracken Street
  • Zillmere Library – 6kms away
    • Corner of Jennings Street and Zillmere Road.
