Wynnum Road intersection upgrade - Tingalpa

Link copied

Council is upgrading the Wynnum Road and Hemmant-Tingalpa Road intersection to improve safety and connectivity.

Works have begun on the Wynnum Road and Hemmant-Tingalpa Road intersection upgrade. This intersection is currently unsignalised and operates with a give way sign on Hemmant-Tingalpa Road.

Upgrade works include:

  • installing new traffic lights with signalised crossing facilities, to fully control all movements through the intersection
  • modifying the centre traffic islands on Wynnum Road and constructing dedicated turn pockets on all approaches to the intersection
  • installing dedicated signalised U-turn pockets for vehicles travelling in both directions along Wynnum Road
  • installing a new path along Hemmant-Tingalpa Road
  • upgrading footpaths and kerb ramps.

We're jointly funding this project with the Australian Government's Roads to Recovery Program.

  • Late 2023: Project introduction.
  • Late 2024: Detailed design.
  • February 2025: Start of early works.
  • March 2025: Start of main civil works.
  • Mid 2026: Proposed end of construction.

From 1 April 2025, we're undertaking works at night between 7pm-5am, Sunday to Thursday to limit impacts on road users in peak periods. The entrance to Hemmant-Tingalpa Road at the intersection with Wynnum Road will be closed intermittently during night works over the next 3 months.

Please seek alternate routes such as Youngs Road or follow detour signage (closer to the Wynnum Road and Hemmant-Tingalpa Road intersection). Wynnum Road will remain open.

We'll try to complete particularly noisy works prior to 11pm and provide advance notice of these works.

During the works, you may experience:

  • increased noise, truck movements, low level vibration and dust
  • light from mobile light towers and flashing vehicle lights
  • changes in traffic conditions, including minor traffic delays, reduced speed limits and temporary lane closures.

Traffic management and signage will be onsite to direct people walking, riding and driving through the area.

We've estabished a temporary site compound in Torquay Crescent Park near Hemmant-Tingalpa Road. We'll use this to store construction equipment and materials during works.

We thank you for your patience and coorperation while we complete these important works.
