Wynnum Road safety improvements - Morningside

Link copied

We’ve made changes to how you access Beverley Street from Wynnum Road at Morningside, making it safer for everyone.

Between 2017 and 2021, there were 6 crashes at this intersection, 4 resulting in hospitalisation, one requiring medical treatment and one minor injury.

Most of the crashes occurred when road users turning right from Wynnum Road into Beverley Street did not give way or misjudged safe gaps in the traffic travelling east on Wynnum Road.

As part of the Black Spots Program we changed how this intersection operates. Works included:

  • changing the entrance to Beverley Street at Wynnum Road to left-in and left-out only
  • reconstructing the raised median on Wynnum Road to remove the right-turn movement from Wynnum Road into Beverley Street
  • realigning the kerb to suit the new layout at the intersection
  • upgrading the on-road cycle lane on the outbound side of Wynnum Road through the intersection by widening and installing green bike lane markings
  • extending the right-turn pocket on Wynnum Road to increase capacity for road users turning right into Bridgewater Street
  • installing new line marking and a new on-road threshold treatment at the entrance to Beverley Street, signage and landscaping to suit the new intersection layout.

This project was proudly funded by the Australian Government’s Black Spots Program.

  • Late September 2025: Project introduction.
  • Early November 2025: Start of construction.
  • Late December 2025: End of construction.

Two permanent access changes were made to improve safety at the intersection.

  • The right turn out of Beverley Street onto Wynnum Road was removed. Road users must now use Kates Street to access Wynnum Road.
  • The right-turn from Wynnum Road onto Beverley Street was also removed. Road users must now use the signals at Junction Road to turn right from Wynnum Road onto Junction Road, then left onto Kates Street to access Beverley Street.
