Nick Xynias Multicultural Young Business Person of the Year - Cristian Andres Campo Figueroa and Taaj Kumar, Co-founders, GM Coffee

This award honours the success, creativity, and energy of a multicultural business leader under 35. It celebrates their community contribution and Brisbane’s ongoing economic prosperity.

Cristian and Taaj co-founded GM Coffee, combining diverse cultural influences and entrepreneurial drive. Cristian, a Colombian-born entrepreneur, focuses on fair trade and quality by sourcing premium beans from his farm and Colombian partners. Taaj, a Brisbane native of Indo‑Fijian heritage, has led the business’s growth across Colombia, Australia and the UAE. The business, fully self-funded, achieved significant revenue growth and secured exclusive international partnerships. Both co‑founders support multicultural initiatives, advocate ethical trade, foster cross‑cultural collaboration, and create positive local and global impact.

Multicultural Emerging Leader of the Year – Irene Lalana Muñoz, Founder and CEO, Irela Aqua and Fitness

This award recognises a multicultural Brisbane business leader who has shown outstanding progress early in their career and business. The award recognises success in business innovation and new products or services. It also celebrates a strong commitment to giving back to the community.

Born in Spain, Irene arrived in Australia in 2019 and became a citizen in 2024. Her journey reflects personal growth and resilience. She didn’t achieve her childhood dream of competing in the Sydney 2000 Olympics as a swimmer. However, Olympism guided her to complete a Bachelor’s in Sport Sciences and a Master’s in Sport Management. Her multicultural background blends Spanish heritage with Australian life. This is a core strength of Irela Aqua and Fitness. It shapes the business’s fitness programs to support sustainable healthy lifestyle changes and informs swimming programs for the migrant community.

Multicultural Entrepreneur of the Year – Nando Barnett, Managing Director, Sell in Style Property Styling

This award recognises a multicultural Brisbane business leader. It highlights business success, entrepreneurial flair, and innovation as a core growth strategy. The recipient will personify the best in entrepreneurialism, possessing qualities from clear leadership and sound management to determination and ambition.

Nando was born in Colombia and is building his future in Brisbane. Nando is Managing Director of Sell In Style Property Styling and EVOCH. He stages over 1,400 properties annually, transforming how homes are presented and sold. His success reflects vision, resilience, and multicultural leadership. His journey blends creativity with strategy, turning challenges into opportunities. It is driven by a passion for building a diverse team. Nando’s work elevates property sales and highlights the value of multicultural perspectives. It shows how diversity drives innovation, growth and connection in Queensland’s business community.

Multicultural Business Person of the Year – Richard Arnold, Founder, Industrial & Maintenance Pty Ltd

This award recognises a multicultural Brisbane business leader. They successfully export products and services from Brisbane across Australia, the Asia Pacific, or internationally. It celebrates the recipient’s contribution to Brisbane’s economy. It also recognises them as a local enterprise champion with a global outlook.

Richard arrived in Australia from Germany in 1959 with a dream. He built Industrial Installation & Maintenance (IMM) from a 2-person operation in 1974 into a market leader with more than 70 staff. IMM is a Brisbane-based manufacturer delivering precision-engineered solutions for the oil, gas and resource sectors. IMM thrives on quality, trust and innovation with a multicultural workforce, zero industrial disputes and no sales team. At 88, Richard still mentors staff and leads advancements in hydrogen and clean energy. His journey from humble beginnings to industry pioneer reflects a lifetime of resilience, vision and leadership.
