The Lord Mayor's Multicultural Business Scholarship Program offerings

This is a globally recognised director education program. It is suitable for anyone who wants to further their directorship skills and knowledge. The course is tailored to experienced directors wishing to take their performance to the next level. It also suits executives and managers who need to understand governance issues in-depth.

The Company Directors Course gives a comprehensive grounding in the roles and duties of board directors. The course includes modules on effective decision-making, the legal aspects of directorship, financial literacy, risk and strategy, as well as putting the lessons into practice.

A 12-month membership with AICD will allow you to be part of an organisation that sets the standard of governance and directorship in Australia and internationally, along with access to their network of more than 43,000 directors. It will help you take the next step in your governance journey.

There are two Company Directors Courses and accompanying 12-month membership scholarships available.

This is a three-day scholarship program providing aspiring directors with a comprehensive overview of the main components of directorship.

Designed for aspiring and new directors, the Foundations of Directorship program is comprised of three one-day courses, Governance for Directors, Risk and Strategy for Directors and Finance for Directors. 

Once all three courses and their assessments have been successfully completed within a 12-month period, participants then receive the Foundations of Directorship certificate.

There are two Foundations of Directorship three-day courses and accompanying 12-month membership scholarships available.

This Fashion Business Program will help you start your fashion design business. You will learn skills from an industry expert from sourcing fabrics, creating templates for each stage of the process, labelling requirements and more.

The scholarship will be conducted from The Sewing Hub, West End. This is open to those who have always aspired to start their own fashion line but have been unable to due to other financial commitments and it is provided exclusively for applicants wanting to set up and manage their business from Brisbane. The content is flexible and can be tailored to suit the specific needs of the awarded recipient.

The scholarship does not include any costs incurred by hiring pattern makers, machinists or fabrics required to make any garments or samples. All operational expenses incurred are to be paid by the awarded recipient.

There is one Launch Your Own Fashion Line placement available.

The custom Export 101 Training Workshop is a one-day intensive training program that provides guidance on the local market and overcoming challenges in the supply and sales channels, including COVID-19’s impact, as well as capability and capacity building.

The training brings together key industry experts as well as learnings including Export Fundamentals (e.g., export cycles, market review, challenges and opportunities to exporting), Business Capacity and Capability (e.g., objective setting, resourcing, management, and competitor response, case studies), and Corporate Signposts (e.g., corporate objectives, budget/finance, brand).

There are 15 Export 101 Training Workshop placements available.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) will prepare you to take your skills to the next level, whether you are running a successful small business or aspiring to become a global business leader, or an innovator in the health care sector. The MBA has two specialisations you can pick from. The International Business MBA is designed to extend your real-world international business knowledge and skills through evidence-based delivery, including leadership, policy, and practice. The specialisation in Health Services Management will broaden your skills in health care focusing on health policy, health leadership and evidence based practice management. You will study at Brisbane City Campus, where recognised industry partners collaborate with us to give you a relevant and impactful education and increase your professional network.

There are up to six scholarships available for the Master of Business Administration (International Business or Health Services Management, covering 25% of course fees. When you complete the Master of Professional Accounting (MPA), you will develop the core accounting, financial management, and auditing skills required to start your own accounting firm or go on to work in accounting at an established organisation. You will expand your finance and business knowledge with specialised courses, including business law, taxation, information systems, economics, and quantitative methods. You will study at the Brisbane City Campus and work closely with industry partners, enhancing your professional skills and knowledge.

The Master of Applied Cyber Security (MACS) will provide you with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of relevant topics and technology pertaining to threats detection, risk analytics, data security, incident response, privacy protection, security audit and compliance, using innovative technologies from leading vendors like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and IBM.
 
Core and elective subjects will allow you to develop the knowledge and skills to analyse, inspect and prevent cyber risks by adopting new practices and policies, in various sectors including e-commerce, banking, digital health, education, food and agriculture. Capstone projects in privacy, security, trust, analytics and/or data management, incorporate elements of management and leadership to further develop your understanding of technical and business principles.

The Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management course is ideal for those wanting to advance their career in a management role. Combined with current industry knowledge, a successful manager uses initiative and judgement to plan and implement strategies with accountability for personal and team outcomes.

In this course you will learn to:

• effectively manage workplace relationships
• develop and implement business plans
• development of marketing plans
• management of workplace risks
• implementation of business innovation
• maintenance of strategic networks

There are up to five Advanced Diplomas in Leadership and Management placements available.

Leadership is fundamentally about facilitating high performance, thereby motivating others to do things effectively and efficiently. Emotional intelligence is a key attribute that helps leaders achieve this function.

This course:

• explores the neuroscience of emotions and emotional intelligence
• examines tools and techniques for effectively asking for, and responding to feedback
• explores techniques for developing self and other awareness
• examines how you can use reactive and proactive techniques to build resilience and effectively manage strong emotions
• explores an approach for facilitating engagement discussions with staff members.

There are up to five Emotionally Intelligent Leader: One Day Enhancement Program placements available.

Suitable for individuals thinking of starting a small business or who have just started one. This six-week non-accredited program provides students with the necessary skills to shape your business idea from proof-of-concept to reality.

TAFE Queensland Brisbane trainers will help you learn about the process of planning, financing, marketing, online business development and the associated laws. The course also helps students to develop entrepreneurial skills and to build their business confidence.

Course outcomes include:

• website landing page
• business model
• strategy plan.

There are up to twenty Start Your Own Business Short Course placements available.

The Young Professionals' Forum (YPs@APCS) is an exclusive program to equip the next generation of global leaders with tailored professional development, networking and the opportunity to develop their ideas and city solutions that are cost neutral or revenue generating. This program has a strong record of attracting talented and leading young minds from throughout the Asia Pacific region and beyond whilst connecting them with city and business leaders to discuss and share their thoughts and solutions.

Create lasting change for the region while connecting with mayors, city and business leaders. YPs@APCS provides unique opportunity for our future leaders to influence the decision makers of the Asia Pacific region.

To be eligible for YPs@APCS you must:

• be between 18 and 30 years of age,
• have experience in and passion for at least one of the program themes including Cities of Connection, Cities of Sustainability and/or Cities of Legacy,
• be available to attend the entire 2023APCS Young Professionals’ Forum based in Brisbane CBD and surrounding areas from Wednesday 11 October to Friday 13 October,
• be available to participate in online discussion forums beginning approximately one month before the 2023APCS, and
• meet the eligibility requirements of the Lord Mayor’s Multicultural Business Scholarship Program.
