Changed traffic and parking conditions for the Lord Mayor’s New Year’s Eve Celebrations

Traffic and parking changes will be in place from 8pm Monday 29 December 2025 to 6am Thursday 1 January 2026 due to the Lord Mayor’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display.

The following roads will be closed during this time:

Brisbane City

From 5pm Wednesday 31 December 2025 to 2am Thursday 1 January 2026:

  • Elizabeth Street between George Street and Elizabeth Street Offramp 
  • William Street between Queen Street and Elizabeth Street 
  • William Street between Elizabeth Street and Stephens Lane 
  • George Street between Elizabeth Street and Adelaide Street (buses accepted until 5pm) 
  • Southbound access for buses and Brisbane Square will be available on Adelaide Street between George Street and North Quay

South Brisbane and Kangaroo Point

From 4pm Wednesday 31 December 2025 to 2am Thursday 1 January 2026:

  • Grey Street between Peel Street and Vulture Street 
  • Hope Street between Peel Street and Melbourne Street 
  • Melbourne Street between Cordelia Street and Merivale Street 
  • Tribune Street between Colchester Street and Vulture Street 
  • Colchester Street between Tribune Street and Ernest Street 
  • Fish Lane between Merivale Street and Grey Street 
  • Ernest Street between Merivale Street and Little Stanley Street 
  • Stanley Street between Little Dock Street and Sidon Street 
  • Sidon Street between Stanley Street and Southbank Parklands 
  • Lower River Terrace between Dock Street and end of street 
  • Little Dock Street between Dock Street and Stanley Street 
  • Cultural Centre Tunnel (access to Queensland Cultural Centre Carpark maintained via Peel Street/Stanley Street) 
  • Stanley Street between Melbourne Street and access to QPAC 
  • Tribune Street between Merivale Street and Little Stanley Street

From 6am Wednesday 31 December 2025 to 2am Thursday 1 January 2026:

  • Russell Street between Grey Street and end of Russell Street (Southbank)

From 9am Wednesday 31 December 2025 to 2am Thursday 1 January 2026:

  • Little Stanley Street between Glenelg Street and Tribune Street

Changed parking conditions will be enforceable at several locations across Brisbane from 8pm Monday 29 December 2025 until 6am Thursday 1 January 2026. 

The following locations will have changed parking signage in place to assist with the road closures associated with New Year’s Eve. Motorists should refer to signage before parking. 

Brisbane City:

  • Ann Street 
  • Adelaide Street 
  • Elizabeth Street 
  • George Street 
  • William Street

South Brisbane and Kangaroo Point:

  • Colchester Street 
  • Little Stanley Street 
  • Grey Street 
  • Tribune Street 
  • Ernest Street 
  • Glenelg Street 
  • Hope Street 
  • Stanley place 
  • Fish Lane 
  • Russell Street 
  • Merivale Street 
  • Sidon Street 
  • Stanley Street 
  • Little Dock Street 
  • Dock Street 
  • Lower River Terrace

From 4pm Wednesday 31 December 2025 to 2am Thursday 1 January 2026, there will be changes to access at the following public car parks:

  • South Bank Parklands carpark will be accessible via Glenelg Street for both entry and exit and Tribune Street for exit only towards Vulture Street 
  • Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre carpark will be accessible via Merivale Street only (no access to and from Grey Street)

Public transport:

  • There will be free travel on buses, ferries and trains from 8pm Wednesday 31 December 2025 until 5.30am Thursday 1 January 2026
  • Buses will operate a normal weekday timetable on Wednesday 31 December 2025, with additional services to help people travel in and out of the CBD for the fireworks display
  • CityCats and Ferries will operate on a normal weekday timetable on Wednesday 31 December, with some changes to frequency. CityCats will run every 15 minutes from 6.30am until about 3am on 1 January 2026

Pedestrian access:

Victoria Bridge and Kangaroo Point Bridge will not be available viewing points for the fireworks. Queensland Police Service (QPS) will be directing all foot traffic off the bridges which will be closed to pedestrians during the fireworks displays.

Access to Victoria Bridge and Kangaroo Point Bridge for pedestrians will be managed at QPS discretion. 

Police, traffic controllers and signage will be on site to assist motorists, buses and pedestrians. 

Diversion routes will be in place, with all detours and diversions clearly signed on the day.
