Walter Taylor Bridge has reopened to traffic and works scheduled for this weekend have been completed

30 May 2026 • 07:22AM

From 9pm Friday 29 May 2026, the Walter Taylor Bridge at Indooroopilly and Chelmer will close to carry out the next stage of essential node renewal works.

Works progressed well during the first weekend, allowing the bridge to reopen early

A larger scale of work will take place this weekend.

The closure is planned to remain in place until 5am, Monday 1 June, however, if works finish sooner, the bridge will reopen earlier.

The exact timing will depend on weather and construction progress.

We will always reopen the bridge as soon as it is safe to do so to reduce impacts on the community.

If the bridge reopens early, we will notify the community as quickly as possible through email and SMS updates, onsite and fixed overhead variable message signs, and through social media.

Further weekend bridge closures will take place in June. Notification on the timings of these will be distributed separately.

The bridge will be closed to all vehicles during these times. Please plan an alternative route and allow for extra travel time.

A section of Wharf Street, between Rosebery Terrace and Regatta Street, and Radnor Street, between Foxton Street and Riverview Terrace, will also be closed during this time.

Public transport services will also be affected, with bus routes 105, 106, 127, 598 and 599 requiring passengers to transfer via train to cross the river.

The Walter Taylor Bridge footpath has closed to allow for scaffold placement and will remain closed until the works finish. Pedestrians and cyclists can continue to use Jack Pesch Bridge during this time.

Traffic control and onsite signage will be in place to assist pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles and public transport users during the closures.
