Explore Brisbane’s river city on CityCat and ferry services — a relaxed and affordable way to travel and sightsee. Services operate across 22 terminals, stretching from UQ St Lucia to Northshore Hamilton, and offer scenic views along the Brisbane River.

Passengers can tap on and off using a go card or a contactless card or smart device. During off‑peak times, services usually run every 15 to 30 minutes, making them well suited to leisurely trips, commutes or a day out on the river.

Things to do along the Brisbane River

From eating, museums and family friendly fun, the ferries and CityCats services are a wonderful way around Brisbane. The many stops along the way have something for everyone and will keep all ages entertained.

Eat along the way

Don’t miss Brisbane’s riverside dining scene. Enjoy relaxed atmospheres, river views and a wide range of delicious food along the way.

  • At the Regatta ferry terminal, check out the Regatta Hotel, which has operated since 1874.
  • Get off at North Quay to visit Queen Street Mall or the Brisbane City Markets on Wednesdays.
  • At South Bank ferry terminal, take a stroll among the shaded paths and check out The Wheel of Brisbane, or go for a dip at Streets Beach.
  • The Riverside ferry terminal is an access point to an abundance of good eating spots. Take your pick at everything from fine dining to casual eats with views of the Story Bridge.
  • Howard Smith Wharves is a must-stop for Felons Brewing Co. and riverside dining the whole family can enjoy.
  • Northshore Hamilton is the final stop close to Eat Street. Portside is also a short walk away.

Parks along the way

  • Try making Orleigh Park (hop off at West End ferry terminal) or Guyatt Park one of your first stops for some playground adventure.
  • At QUT Gardens Point, take a stroll down to the City Botanic Gardens. Enjoy strolling along the historic Bunya Walk.
  • The Maritime Museum ferry terminal, South Brisbane gives you access to The Cliffs boardwalk and the Queensland Maritime Museum. The boardwalk is a great way to leisurely stroll to Kangaroo Point Cliffs.
  • Hop off at Holman Street for a picnic at Captain Burke Park, beside the Story Bridge.
  • Jump off at Sydney Street to explore Merthyr Park, then enjoy food or drinks at the Officers Mess
  • New Farm Park ferry terminal is great for an easy stop off at New Farm Park. See if the roses are blooming, or pop into the Brisbane Powerhouse. If you are free on a Saturday, be sure to visit the Jan Powers Farmers Markets for a one-stop local shop.
