School recycling service

For each Waste Utility Charge a school pays for, they can request at no extra cost:

  • a 240 litre or 340 litre yellow bin, or a bulk yellow bin equivalent (based on volume), and
  • one 240 litre green bin.

Eligibility depends on:

  • existing Development Approval conditions, and
  • sufficient frontage to present bins for collection.

Who can apply for the service

Any authorised school representative can request the recycling service. If additional charges are required, the rate account holder must contact us.

What happens after you apply

We'll assess your application and phone your school to discuss the right bin to suit your needs.

An onsite consultation and site inspection may be required before approval.

User-pays: school recycling service

Brisbane schools that don’t have a waste collection service can apply online for the business recycling service. This is a user-pays business recycling service.
 

Waste and recycling education resources

We offer free waste educational resources for schools and early learning centres. Teachers can download these free resources for use in their classrooms.

Check if your school has a second-hand uniform pool. Alternatively, you can find a local drop off point near you with Recycle Mate.

Items in poor condition and not suitable for recycling should be disposed of in your red bin.

Good quality books are accepted for free at any of our resource recovery centres for donation at our Treasure Troves.

Books in poor condition can be disposed of in the yellow bin. Remove any soft plastic covering and binding before placing book pages in your yellow bin.

You can recycle stationery through a participating stationery retailer. Find your nearest drop off point with Recycle Mate.

Alternatively, stationery can be disposed of in your red bin.

E-waste is accepted for free at any of our resource recovery centres. Limits apply.

Alternatively some of our community recycling hubs also accept small e-waste items.
