Entering a new era of sound with Audeara

Since its beginnings in 2015, Audeara has been changing lives with their state-of-the-art headphones.

With a focus on creating headphones that provide a world-class, tailor made, listening experience to users, they have set about redefining hearing health.

Audeara has humble yet noble roots. The company started out by providing accessible hearing test software after founder Dr James Fielding saw his grandfather’s hearing decline.

The simple observation that customising sound to suit an individual’s hearing profile can have a meaningful impact on the overall listening experience has led to industry leading developments.

Double recognition

Now Audeara and their founder, Dr Fielding, have been recognised for their hard work and contribution to Brisbane’s economy, with two wins at the 2022 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards.

At the 2022 awards, Audeara won the CCIQ Award for Outstanding Small Business for their excellence in running a small business in Brisbane.

Meanwhile, Dr Fielding picked up the Port of Brisbane Award for Young Businessperson of the Year for his success benefiting both his company and the city of Brisbane.

Dr Fielding said being recognised with two awards was an incredible honour.

“It was a great validation of the hard work that the entire team has put into building a great company designed to make people's lives better,” he said.

“It was particularly gratifying to win both categories as a reflection of what our team has built.

“It was tremendously satisfying, especially given the year that we have had to know that the hard work was being appreciated by our community.”

Leaping to build success

After graduating from medical school, Dr Fielding worked at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital before leaving clinical medicine to focus on founding Audeara.

“Leaving Medicine to focus on growing businesses was always a risk and moments like this allow for a period of reflection and gratitude for all people who helped me along the way,” Dr Fielding said.

“I accepted this award on behalf of them, knowing that while I’ve certainty worked hard to get where I am, I didn’t do it alone.”

Dr Fielding was motivated to make the move from clinical medicine to the business world to help people and come up with solutions.

“I wasn’t willing to wait for someone else to come up with a solution for the problems that we saw,” he said.

“I got into medicine to help people, now I'm in business to help so many more through this channel.”

Audeara is not his only business pursuit, with several other Brisbane-based companies established by Dr Fielding.

From a confectionary company helping combat the onset of mental health disorders in young Australians to a medical device company, Dr Fielding’s ventures combine his savvy business instincts with his passion for helping others.

To date the impressive list of companies established by Dr Fielding include Yumm! Confectionary, Field Orthopaedics, RER 360, RER Labs, and of course Audeara.

Attitude matters

With extensive business experience under his belt including time working at hedge fund in New York, Dr fielding offered some wise words of advice for Brisbane’s aspiring entrepreneurs.

“Gratitude and respect can get you anywhere, then you actually have to do it.”

With more than 1000 hearing clinics across the country stocking Audeara’s products the company has plans to put Brisbane on the world stage with international expansion underway.

Outlining Audeara’s vision for the future, Dr Fielding said the company was planning to bring their innovative approach to hearing health to people around the globe.

“Helping people on a global scale, we’re prepped for launch across Europe and the USA and I recently added a new partnership in Taiwan, which will provide a tremendous opportunity.

“My personal goals included maintaining the balance of work and family life as the intensity builds up on both fronts.

“We’re just getting started.”
