How business owners can get the most from the Brisbane app

Once upon a time to get customers through your doors you might have handed out flyers or bought an ad in the Yellow Pages. Now, when we spend more time on our phones and apps to discover more about local businesses, its essential business owners engage with their customers where they are.

We’ve put together this guide to show you how easy it is to be listed on the Brisbane app, gain free promotion to connect with more customers and how to best manage your business profile in the app.

With more than 260,000 installs since October 2021, users are spending on average min 17 minutes per session in the app – it makes sense to get in on the action.

Step 1: Find and claim or sign up your business

The first step is to sign up for your free account.  Once you have signed up you can claim your business for an existing listing or create a new place.

  1. Claim your business. From the app, select ‘Claim this Business’ button at the bottom of the page and follow the prompts. The simplest way to claim your business is by selecting the ‘Quick’ option.  You’ll need to know your ABN and business name to complete this step.
  2. Create a business listing. From the app, select ‘Create your own place’ and follow the prompts. You can add information about the business, select a category that best describes your business, add photos, business hours and more. The more detail you can add that will help customers find you the better.
  3. Complete your business profile. Fill in your profile with information including a description telling users about your business or venue, adding photos of your business, sharing links of your social media accounts, menu items or activities to make sure your customers have all the information they need to find and visit you.

Step 2: A picture says a thousand words

When selecting photos to add to your listing, think about what you want customers to know about you.

Location shot. If you are a café include photos that show the front of your café so people can easily find you, as well as photos of the delicious items on your menu.

Showcase what you offer. Likewise, if you are a business that offers an activity like boat rentals or a service like personal training, make sure the photos you choose showcase the best of what you offer. For example, if you are a personal trainer wanting to focus on outdoor bootcamps for new mums, then make sure the images reflect this.

Quality matters. Of course, always aim to upload high quality, high resolution (min. 1 MB, max 2 MB and jpg only) photos for the best user experience in the app.

Update regularly. Set regular reminders – once or twice a quarter – to log back in and update your photos and other details like opening hours.

Step 3: Play a part in building your local community

More than ever, cultivating your local community is a powerful thing. Champion local businesses near you by creating your own guides. It’s a great way to shine the spotlight on your favourite places to take the kids, stop for a coffee or stock up on locally made bites to eat. Consider creating a neighbourhood specific guide that lets people discover all that is fantastic about where you live and work.

Step 4: Word of mouth travels fast

The saying goes, “the more the merrier” and we agree. The more Brisbane locals and business owners who create their free account and start sharing their favourite places and businesses to explore in Brisbane, the better.

So, let more people know your business is on the Brisbane app by downloading our instore window decal to print and display.
