Brisbane Wedding Decorators say ‘I do’ to elopement

We have viewed this time as we view all stages of the ceremony planning and design process with our couples – as an opportunity to exceed expectations and reassure them they have invested in the right suppliers for their wedding day.”

When coronavirus restrictions came in the peak of autumn wedding season, Jamie and Cara’s celebrant and Brisbane Wedding Decorators businesses were caught in a flurry of cancellations and changes. They took their decade of experience and pivoted, launching to help couples wed with luxury, affordability and safety.

To get their new venture started, Jamie and Cara took advantage of Council’s waived permit fees for their New Farm Park Rotunda elopement day.

Tell us about your business

With the possibility of weddings being stopped, many couples chose to bring their wedding day forward with a simple ‘legals only’ or ‘elopement’ style ceremony, giving them the legal protection and peace of mind of marriage, with intentions for a celebration day with family and friends at a later date.

We were thrilled to be able to take advantage of a waived permit fee through Brisbane City Council which enabled us to book New Farm Park Rotunda for an afternoon and host a styled luxury elopement day for The concept being we provide a beautifully styled wedding backdrop within the rotunda, and a Celebrant service, and multiple couples can book a timeslot and take it in turns to share the luxury setting for their ceremony.

What is the biggest challenge running your business since coronavirus?

For us, not only was the challenge of our business potentially coming to a standstill, but also the prospect of refunds, actually sending us backwards.

What’s the business innovation you’re proudest of?

We are so proud to see our new business gaining so much interest and enquiries so quickly. Also, as of today, we just received our 200th 5-star Google review, which we’re told makes us the most highly rated celebrant team in Australia! We have received many forms of recognition and awards over the years, but to be rated so highly by so many of our couples is the best award we could win, and this makes us so happy!

Cara: My name is Cara Hodge and along with my husband Jamie Eastgate, we’re the owners of Brisbane Wedding Decorators.

So, we specialise in creating and setting up elegant wedding ceremony set-ups in Brisbane and the surrounding areas and particularly in the beautiful parks around Brisbane.

When coronavirus happened, we had to really think about the way our business was structured and how is this going to affect us. So, we adapted to the restrictions by focusing and promoting an elopement offering.

Jamie: The Council has been excellent especially in the regards to parks like this with New Farm Park we’ve been able to access the rotunda at no charge. So, we’ve been able to set up beautiful elopements, which means that we can do a setting within the rotunda and then up to three couples over the day can share that same setting. So, it does make it more cost effective and more affordable for couples during this time, where perhaps they could be a little bit stretched
