Resource recovery centres

Brisbane City Council has four resource recovery centres at Chandler, Ferny Grove, Nudgee and Willawong with recycling and waste facilities. The centres were previously known as transfer stations or tips. Our resource recovery centres help you to recylce more, reducing waste to landfill.

Use of the recycling areas at the centres is free if your vehicle is less than 4.5 tonnes combined gross vehicle mass.

For the disposal of general waste and green waste, you can use waste vouchers or pay a fee.

How to use the centres

As you enter a resource recovery centre, you will be asked what types of materials you have for recycling or disposal. The attendant will direct you to follow the colour-coded line displayed on the road.

Recyclable materials

For recyclable items and or Treasure Trove donations in your load, go to the free recycling area first and place your materials into the relevant container. Friendly staff in the area will assist you with sorting if you are unsure where to recycle. Follow the green and general waste instructions if you have any remaining waste in your load.

Green and general waste

Drive to the second weighbridge that will lead you to the general waste pit.

Safety

When visiting your local resource recovery centre, dress for safety. Council recommends fully enclosed shoes, long pants, protective glasses such as sunglasses and protective gloves. Children under 12 and family pets must remain in your vehicle at all times. For heavy loads, plan your trip before you arrive. Bring a friend or family member to help you unload.

Council's resource recovery centres are non-smoking sites. Threatening behaviour or violence towards staff or visitors will not be tolerated. This type of behaviour may result in offenders being asked to leave.

Waste vouchers, fees and charges

Waste vouchers or fees apply when you dispose of general or green waste at any of the four centres.

Council offers free green waste recycling drop-off weekends to help residents clean up their gardens. Find upcoming green waste recycling drop-off events.
