Uncover our wartime heritage - Macarthur Museum

Did you know Brisbane was home to the World War II headquarters of the Allied South West Pacific Area command? From July 1942 to October 1944, US General Douglas MacArthur commanded the war in the region from an inner-city building, which is now known as the MacArthur Museum.

Located in the MacArthur Chambers building on Edward Street, at the end of the Queen Street Mall, the museum houses wartime documents and artefacts, including the conference table used by MacArthur and his staff. The museum also explores the wartime experience of children and the impact of restrictions on food, fuel, clothing and personal freedoms.

The MacArthur Museum is open from 10am-3pm (last entry at 2.30pm) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
