Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an ancient festival celebrated across India in autumn every year. The festival celebrates the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair.
This year, Brisbane residents are again invited to celebrate the area’s rich cultural diversity at the annual Diwali celebrations. The festival is a free afternoon event showcasing vibrant Indian entertainment, including music and dance performances, a selection of authentic Indian cuisine and sweets, and a jumping castle for children. All residents of the Banyo district, both long-standing and new, are invited to attend and take part in celebrating this ancient calendar festival, while enjoying the richness of the community’s multicultural spirit.
Planning is well underway for this year’s vibrant celebration, with more than 800 attendees expected to enjoy the rich flavours, sounds, and traditions of Indian culture. This free community event proudly reflects the inclusive spirit of the local area, with organisers committed to creating a welcoming and family-friendly experience for all.
Proudly sponsored by Brisbane City Council. For more information, please visit Banyo Diwali website.
