Come and show your support for DV survivors at our "Dress to Express" Walk & Rally in the CBD at 4pm, Friday 28 August.
Coercive control through fashion (eg being told what you can/cannot wear, how to wear your hair etc) is one of the first and most common signs of control in an abusive relationship and many women have reported experiencing this. It can also lead to other types of control.
On Dress to Express Day, in partnership with Brisbane Fashion Festival, our goal is to raise awareness about the subtle, everyday signs of coercive control in relationships and the support that is available if you're in an abusive relationship.
We will also be walking in solidarity with many incredible DV survivors who are rediscovering their identity after leaving abuse.
Meeting at King George Square at 4pm and walk together to the Queen Street Mall stage.
We'll be joined by incredible speakers/guests including Lady Mayoress, Brisbane Fashion Festival Director Lindsey Bennett and fashion model Brooke Lawrie fashion icon/MND Warrior/Survivor Advocate Jo Boon, Belle Dawes- Brisbane Lions AFLW Vice-captain, Comedian Christian Hull, Mel Alsemgeest- Hairdresser/ Infectious Behaviour Podcast, Jordan Royal- 4ZZZ Presenter.
We'll be entertained with live music and audience activities.
